#10 – May we move past the limitations of religion and into true spirituality, which is the development of the spirit of your true self. Whether you hold a spirit of adventure, inventiveness, nesting, healing, building, baking, designing, study, or whatever, let it fire your passion then follow it. This is what leads to true spirituality… and it will be unique to you.
When the U.S. faced the recent election, most people saw it as just an election. I saw it as the start of The Hero’s Journey. I was on pins and needles as I waited for the outcome of the election! The hero’s journey is a journey that involves: 1. Making a choice – either knowingly or inadvertently; 2. Being confronted with a critical problem that must be resolved; 3. A demand to clean and reorganize the house; 4. Going through a sorting process; 5. Having to align oneself with one’s true nature; 6. Carrying some form of light, whether candle or glowing coals, to a destination; and 7. Holding oneself in the place of a humble but grateful, even joyous, witness as the problem resolves itself.
The Hero’s Journey is a mythical journey of awakening and transformation. It is a journey into the heart of consciousness that results in a changed individual full of wisdom, grace, and power. It is usually undertaken by an individual, but it can also be undertaken by a family or a country. It is a journey into the heart of the self that results in becoming wise, graceful, and powerful. It involves challenges that change you at the core. It involves becoming who you really are. To fail to embark on the journey or to fail to complete it results in death.
In the election campaign, people saw Hillary Clinton all polished and pretty and politically correct, running for president. Running against her was Donald Trump who was brash and bold and breaking all the rules of polite politics. She represented the queen, the one with all the power. She represented the status quo, more of what we already had. He represented the clown, the one who distracts us from the status quo and because he is a clown, is not taken seriously.
Difficulty is always a factor in making the choice. If the choice was obvious, it would be easy. There are always an overwhelming number of frightening or threatening unknowns. It’s like getting a divorce. We can’t stand the marriage any longer, but we don’t want the financial or emotional hit that a divorce would bring. We don’t want the queen and her status quo, but to choose the clown and the unknown??
This election was the setup for that choice – a choice that asked us, “Do we want to evolve our consciousness and move to a place of wisdom, joy, grace, and peace of mind? Or do we want to go down in ignominious self-destruction?” The choice is symbolic of life and death, of evolution to a more expanded consciousness, of taking a step toward becoming who we really are – or a refusal to look at truth and continuing to live with spirit-deadening lies.
As we drew closer to the election, a flood of information began to flow out of the FBI, the New York police department, the CIA, and other intelligence agencies. They knew what was going on behind the scenes with Clinton and were sending their intelligence reports to WikiLeaks. The information contained emails, photos, and other evidence about the millions of dollars being laundered by the Clinton Foundation, the sale of U.S. state secrets to other countries, the murder of anyone who got in their way, and the abduction of children and teens to Jeffery Epstein’s island home in the Virgin Islands where they were made “available” to various people in powerful places for sexual purposes. Those who took advantage of these young ones were secretly videotaped and then blackmailed to go along with the wishes of the Bush-Clinton cabal…a group responsible for much more dishonesty and corruption than is listed here…and all of this corruption becomes the critical problem that must be resolved.
In many of the ancient journeys of awakening, once the choice is made, the hero or heroine is made to clean up in some way. In the myth of Hercules, he must shovel out a thousand years’ worth of manure from the king’s stables in one day. In another, the young and beautiful Vasalisa must clean and re-organize the witch’s house every day. This symbolizes the need to clean house and reorganize ourselves as a nation. Representatives of the old system cannot clean up the system because it is working for them! Thus the need for the hero to do the cleanup…and in this case, we the people are the heroes.
The next challenge is that of sorting. In the story of Vasalisa, she is confronted with a mountain of dirt mixed with poppy seeds and is told she must sort the seeds from the dirt by the next morning. Complicating the problem of sorting is that the seeds are tiny, black, and hard to identify, it is dark, and there is great pressure to accomplish the task. She is hopeless and feels it is impossible to complete, and when she gets tired, she goes to sleep believing she has failed, but in the morning, she finds the job finished! The angels and helpful spirits have completed the job while she slept.
The sorting symbolizes the need to sort out good from bad, as well as that which can be used to start new life. The seeds of truth and reality can be planted and used to nurture and feed the souls of the people. The fact that the task is completed while Vasalisa sleeps symbolizes the ancient truth that even though we may become hopeless and are not awake yet, there are hidden forces and factors working in our favor. Even though we are working in the dark (dark night of the soul) the task will be accomplished and the dawn will come.
Once the sorting is complete, the hero often faces a decision. The decision is some form of acceptance of one’s true nature and an alignment with this relatively unfamiliar…but seemingly very natural…self. It is a coming home to who we really are…warts, gifts, faults, crazy sense of humor and all! Once the decision is made to align with the true self, there follows a deep recognition of all nature and of what is real in the world. This is the crux of the journey. We cannot live fake lives. It will destroy us.
The last task is that of carrying a lighted candle or glowing coals that will restart our fires. Sometimes the hero must carry the flame through the forest and not let it go out despite wind and rain. If he lets the candle go out, he will lose his way and die. If he reaches his destination with the light still burning, the light burns away the darkness and evil that once lived there.
In the same way that every plant, animal, and human has a natural life-cycle, every civilization has a life-cycle in which its people must develop and evolve to a place of power, wisdom, and grace. There have been lots of civilizations before us. Some have evolved to become wholly transformed and have gone on to other dimensions of greater power and creativity. Many have collapsed in self-destructive cataclysms. Choosing the path of war, greed, and other forms of selfishness leads to self-destruction. “The Universe” gives us total freedom to do as we wish with Life because it knows there is only one choice – the choice to evolve and grow. That’s why she can be so generous with free will…it’s because She knows that those who are foolish enough to choose anything other than Life will eventually self-destruct, thus taking care of the problem they created!
The U.S. recently reached the point where a choice had to be made…either continue to look the other way and ignore the ugliness that would eventually destroy us – or make a new choice. That choice has been made and we must now begin the task of cleaning house and sorting things out. These are always messy, painful tasks that take at least several years for an individual, even longer for a nation or civilization, yet doing so will lead to the realization that we must align with our true nature if we want to survive. We will then have to carry the light and protect it from going out.
I was in bed and almost asleep at 10:26 last night when my iPad began going off.
A student wrote:
“OMG heaven help us!! This election is nailbiting!! WHAT did the Robes see in Trump over a woman (Clinton)?”
I wrote back:
“LOL, it isn’t about Trump vs. Clinton. It is about consciousness. It is about learning to see past illusions (Hillary represents a huge illusion) and choosing something above the consciousness of murder, rape of children, fraud, and betrayal that she represents. Trump is like the clown in the Memorial Day parade that distract your attention from the wounded and surviving veterans who march along in lockstep. We are the marchers in this parade, quite wounded, and needing to refuse the distractions that pull at us. We are at a serious point in our civilization’s evolution. If we choose the corruption of the past, we will collapse and disintegrate. Even if we choose the higher consciousness, there will be civil war to finish breaking down the old systems. Sometimes the only thing we will have to sustain us will be the knowledge that we made the right choice. If Trump is elected, he will have served his purpose and will likely not be with us very long. So quit biting those fingernails and watch what is unfolding. In itself, the whole election circus is a distraction from the drama of a huge gold theft going on across the sea. The Cabal has falsified ownership papers of 1 million tons of gold and is preparing to make off with it in order to stay in power. That is where the real tragedy is!
She then replied:
“.?! sigh..breath..breath…Gold is already rising like crazy… and what about Russia pushing into Estonia while we are preoccupied…
“LOL YES… Breathe deeply…there is some really awful stuff taking place while we are occupied elsewhere. I heard that the U.S. blew up the power grid in Murmansk today putting 300,000 Russian people in the dark and cold. That’s up near the Arctic circle, so really inconvenient for those people. I am not surprised about the gold price. I expect silver will climb as well…and later on other things will fall, like our dollar.”
Electing Donald Trump is only the first act of evolving our civilization. I am going to look up an old story that teaches a lesson and brings insight into our situation. Back soon.
I’m not the least bit ignorant, Yvonne. I know what Islam teaches. And in your counter-argument, you verified beautifully exactly what I pointed out…submission is the path to achieve Islam’s version of religious success. It doesn’t matter that they tack on promises that say submission will get you to Oneness. It’s still submission, and it’s a very effective way of controlling the spiritually immature.
Christianity does the same thing using guilt. All sorts of promises are made to you if you will just purge yourself of guilt, the result being that you end up focusing on your imaginary guilt – all of which is defined by men. Some people go so far as to flog themselves or continuously punish themselves instead of focusing on the joyousness and freedom of becoming who you really are – warts and all! You are a unique individual for a reason.
Buddhism does the same thing by telling you to get rid of the ego. Shame on you for having an ego! The problem is that the real ego is that part of you that is always aware and scanning the environment for threats that may require you to fight or run like hell to save your life. The legacy of Freud is a serious misunderstanding of the ego.
You need the ego as a protective function! However, as you develop your consciousness, you become more and more present. The more present you are, the less need there will be for your ‘ego’ to be watching. Instead, you will be watching and supremely aware! As you become being totally present, the ego fades naturally to the background. You take over the job of watching for attacks and threats – and you calmly and skillfully shift these energies. You can only be totally present if you are silent, aware, and maintain absolute clarity. Telling people they have to drop their ego is not only a disservice, it’s a serious distraction from the work of becoming highly conscious. Ego is absolutely necessary until full spiritual development takes over, at which point the ego is subsumed into an awakened consciousness.
All religions are frameworks for the spiritually immature. This is not to say they are bad. They are useful for helping us hold a set of beliefs until we can plumb their depths and go beyond the dogma. Religions often mean well, but their teachings tend to be shallow and must eventually be understood at a much deeper level than most religions care to go. They don’t want to go any deeper because it undermines their control. Those people who go beyond the common framework enter the world of the esoteric teachings. This is a territory where only a few people really venture because it takes you beyond the world of the easy, the shallow, the group-think platitudes that most people settle for.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You will rarely get to Oneness and the experience of the Godhead by doing what the religions, or even the New Age teachings tell you. You will only get there by having the courage to be yourself, follow your heart, and let the path that interests you take you into the unknown where you will risk being torn apart at almost every level of your being. However, you will come back together and will emerge as someone who knows the Self and needs no other framework.
I recently did a 2-hour interview with George Rideout of Sacred Space Radio in Winnepeg, Canada. We talked about all sorts of things from kundalini and spiritual development to dreams, near death, reincarnation, and a whole bunch of other topics associated with spiritual development. Here is the link if you’d like to listen and enjoy:
We are not all one! We are all different in weirdly wonderful and unique ways. Think of it like this. The world is a giant barrel of flour. The flour is used to make bread dough. Some of the dough is made into loaves to become toast or sandwiches, some into cinnamon rolls or dumplings, and some into bagels, pizza, or croutons. Additional ingredients can be added or left out to make pita pockets, a simple form of paste, maybe gravy, cookies, or pie crust. There is flour in all of these, but each is different and has different reasons for being. It is the same with us. Are we all one? No, not in a practical sense. Do we all have a common ingredient? Yes. We are all made of light. Is there only one kind of light? Nope. There are many frequencies, each a unique color and sound. How much does the average human know about light? Not much. Why are we made of light? Who knows! However, light has the capacity to perceive, to hear, to communicate, to move about, and to organize or re-organize itself. Using modern industrial language, we could truthfully say humans are a product of the light. What do we usually say? “I have been created by God.”
I get this question a lot, so I asked the person who sent it if she would mind if I used her question to put the answer out there again. She wrote:
I am having a hard time understanding how our people, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters and so on who are soldiers would ever walk against the people in our own country. They are us, how do we come to grips with that?
The effort to understand how some people can go against others is a HUGE step in understanding the nature of reality. We are all here to evolve and change. It is very difficult to change if you are not in a physical system. We come to this physical system after having made all sorts of agreements and contracts with one another to teach certain things. Before we get here there is a great deal of time and energy spent planning a life and getting others to come back with you and play certain roles that will force you to change. The people who love us the most will often take on the role of the most frustrating people in our life. Why? Because only someone who cares for you a lot will have the stamina to withstand your anger and continue to teach until you get it. Of course, we usually set things up so that our favorite people are teaching one thing, and we are teaching them something they need. It’s a beautiful system for evolution and change.
As for your comment, “They are us, how do we come to grips with that?” Most people take the “we are all one” concept way too far. Yes, we are all made of Source material, which is Light, however, in a physical system, we are all separate, all different, and it bothers me a lot that people try to lump everyone together instead of celebrating our differences, exploring the mystery of another human, and making space for the collective reality to grow and evolve because of the millions of unique contributions of all of us here. We are not all one – except in terms of the Light that we are all made of – and insisting that we are defeats the entire purpose and joy of individual existence within a physical reality system.
