Faulty Thinking #2 - Bahrain

February 27, 2011 I heard a newscast the other day. An official from Bahrain was being interviewed. He said that government forces had attacked the people gathered in the square because the government needed to clear the square in order to secure the country. I do not think the government needed to clear the square in order to secure the country.  This is faulty thinking. The people ARE the country. The country IS the people. What is a country without people? It is an empty shell…a non-entity…a mere geographic location in space. Perhaps what really needs to be cleared is the air, not the square. In too many countries there is an air of oppression and confusion. There is an air of sorrow and repression. There is a serious lack of awareness on the part of the people that the government needs them much more than they need the government. Who else is going to build all the palaces, keep them clean,  grow all the food, make all the clothing, repair all the cars and airplanes, do all the work, and pay all the taxes  if the common folk don’t do it? Can you imagine King Hamad Al Khalifa cleaning his bathtub or vacuuming his own floors?
